Amazing weekend for Club of Convention
Club of Convention winners Newton St Cyres have had an ‘amazing’ weekend in Torquay meeting Radio 1 DJs and being treated like stars.
The Club have made the most of all the activities over the weekend from attending the competition finals to learning lots in the AGRI Forum, as well as enjoy the evening entertainment.
As part of their prize, eight members of the Club got to meet the Radio 1 DJs over the weekend and got their photos taken with the presenters.
But it wasn’t the celebrity meet ups that rated the highest in their highlights of the weekend. Millie Murphy told us it was all about the Entertainments finals.
“I really enjoyed the Entertainments finals in the Princess Theatre. I am Group Secretary so it was nice to see Cheriton & Tedburn YFC, who are in my group, go all the way through to the final – even though they beat us in the first round!
“I really enjoyed the winning performance from Wales too. It told the story about the coal disaster, but it wasn’t too emotional.”
Club member Stacey Brewer said that all of the competition finals were a real celebration of what being a member of YFC is all about. “It’s great seeing everybody’s hard work and how we all come together to show off what Young Farmers can do. You don’t have to be from a farming background, anyone can do it.
“The highlight of the weekend for me has been all the different clubs coming together, socialising and making new friends.”
Seven members of the Club attended the AGRI Forum on Saturday morning. Club Leader David Trigg said it was the first time he had been to the Forum in the 14 years since he had been a member but was impressed by the standard.
“I really enjoyed it and the workshop about Brexit. It was good to learn about what we can do as farmers and what to tell the politicians. The quality of the panellists surprised me, everyone was so professional. It was very well organised and a great opportunity for YFC members to learn a lot,” said David.
The Club have been followed all weekend by a photographer, which they said has helped unite them!
“It has been nice being photographed all weekend - we have all come together more. Normally at Convention you don’t always see your friends but we have all come together for pictures,” said Millie.
Member Rob Cheriton added: “I’m looking forward to seeing our photographs. It has been great promotion for the Club. Being the Club of Convention has got our name out there.”
Newton St Cyres have been on their best behaviour all weekend as our Club of Convention but they feel everyone else has been too. “We haven’t seen any disruptive behaviour,” said Millie. “I think everyone took on board the positive behaviour messages we were given before we came.”
The Club have also enjoyed their time in the Bay. Club Leader David said: “The local businesses have been great, really friendly and great service. Taxi drivers have been brilliant too. We would all definitely come back to Torquay.”
Thanks Newton St Cyres for being such stars during Convention!
