Devon Dancers’ Delight

A raucous Devon crowd cheered county buddies Buckland Brewer to the Commercial Dance title today.

In a hotly contested final round, Buckland Brewer shook off competition from the second placed Gloucestershire County Team and third placed Clun Valley YFC from Shropshire.

Buckland Brewer’s feat was all the more remarkable because they achieved it with one man down – as club member Tricky Hardy was running in today’s London Marathon in aid of the RNLI.

James Roach said: “It was amazing – I wasn’t expecting this. We’ve been training a few times a week for eight months – it’s been non-stop.”

Hannah Shorthose said that, aside from the thrill of winning the title, the hard work and preparation has brought them together as a group. “It was hard work, but so much fun – we’ve had a real laugh.”

And Tricky, who completed his marathon in around three-and-a-half hours, sent his own message of congratulations to his team mates. He said: “It’s great news – I’m proud of them. It’s been a hell of a day!”
