Entertainments finalists revealed

After a weekend of impressive performances in the Northern and Southern Regional finals of the Performing Arts competition, five counties have made it through to the final of the competition at Annual Convention in Torquay.

The two highest scoring teams from the Northern and Southern Regional Finals and the winning team from the Wales Area round are now preparing to tread the boards again in Torquay – and hoping to clinch the top spot.

Raughton Head YFC from Cumbria and Cheriton & Tedburn YFC from Devon are the overall winners of the Northern and Southern Regional Finals. Whitley Chapel YFC from Northumberland and Cornwall FYFC came in second places and have earned their places at the Final too.

Llanfyllin YFC from Montgomery was declared the winner from the Wales Area with its emotional portrayal of the decline of the coal mining industry and the Aberfan disaster in 1966.
Ffion Wright Evans from Llanfyllin YFC said Club members can’t believe they have made it to the national final as they are a young cast with an average age of 14. “As Llanfyllin YFC celebrates its 80th anniversary year, it is an honour to be representing Wales and Montgomery FYFC,” said Ffion. “All of the cast members and production team are thrilled. Many of our cast members have never experienced anything like this before so you can imagine the excitement in practices at the moment!”

The Welsh team will be up against stiff competition when they join the four other teams on Saturday 22 April at the Princess Theatre in Torquay.

Northern Regional Final winners Raughton Head YFC promise a fast, funny and entertaining performance from their show called Medical Madness!
“It is based around a hospital so hopefully anyone that sees it will feel better afterwards,“ said Raughton YFC Chairman Philip Potts. “It’s absolutely brilliant to get through to the National Finals after all the practising and the four rounds of elimination. I am really proud of the Club – everyone has had a chance to take part.  Hopefully all the hard work and the long journey from Cumbria to Devon will pay off and we do a top class, last performance.”

The southern teams will be eager to steal the show though with their stage productions and Southern Regional Final winners Cheriton & Tedburn YFC are hoping their country-themed performance is a winner.
“This is a big achievement for our small Club and the competition has really brought us together,” explained Dan Grist – producer and cast member of Play that Country Song. “With members ranging from 10 to 27 years old, it really has been a whole Club effort and sums up what YFC is all about! We hope members past and present will be able to relate to our country-themed show – from a magic act to a farmyard stomp, there should be something for everyone!”

Cornwall FYFC will be performing How Pink is your Panther? and Whitley Chapel YFC will put on their show called An Invite to Fright Night!

Tickets to watch the performances in Torquay can be bought in advance or on the door. See more information here. Anyone with a wristband for Friday and Saturday will have free access to the performances.
