Gloucestershire are jump rope stars

The county team from Gloucestershire jumped to it at this year’s Jump Rope finals to leap into first place.

The team – made up of Tess Bateman and Anna Edwards from Sodbury Vale YFC, and Andy Wilcox and Dan Whinchup from Wotton & Dursley YFC – impressed the judges with their energetic routine.

“It was really unexpected,” said Tess, who is in her final membership year. “But it was amazing.”

The county team had a mix of experience, ranging from two complete beginners up Tess, who has been at National Final three times.

“That was one of our most challenging things – trying to train those new people up. And one of our team members, Dan, was away for a month so we missed out on a lot of training. We put our routine together in just 19 days, so we’re pretty chuffed with that.”

Gloucestershire came top out of nine teams, with second place going to Eccleshall YFC from Staffordshire and third to Samlesbury YFC from Lancashire.

Teams in the competition consisted of four members and routines included a mixture of individual skipping and combined sections using a long rope.

The results were live streamed on Facebook and the winning team can be seen performing again on this video too.
